Diabetic Foot Assessment

All people with diabetes should have their feet checked at least once a year by a podiatrist or a doctor. Foot care is essential as diabetes effects the blood flow to the foot and can therefore impinge on the healing ability of the foot. In addition, diabetes can cause nerve damage meaning that a small cut or blister can become an ulcer putting the foot at risk.

Good foot hygiene is essential, wear well-fitted shoes and keep toe nails trimmed.

It is important that corns and calluses are treated by a podiatrist. Foot problems can be avoided by taking good care of your feet and acting quickly if a problem arises.
