Foot and Ankle Pain

What is Foot and Ankle Pain?

Posture begins at the feet and ankles, if that is not optimal then the rest of the body has to work harder and muscles and ligaments inevitably become overworked.  There are many problems that can occur at the foot including bunions, plantar fasciitis, sprains, tendinitis and many more.  The feet are filled with sensory receptors that direct our muscles and tell them when to contract in order to keep our posture correct.  Modern day shoes and the type of terrain that we walk on, have slowly lost our feet the ability to monitor our posture effectively. This can result in misuse or overuse of the muscles, which will in turn often result in the conditions mentioned above.

How we treat Foot and Ankle problems at Richmond Osteopaths

We aim to improve the receptors in the feet through exercise and manual treatment.  We will work on muscles and ligaments in the feet and ankles with techniques such as mobilisation, stretches and massage.  Exercises are aimed at improving stability around the feet, ankles and pelvis to reduce the workload on the local muscles.  Advice is given on footwear and insoles if required.

Our advice

Challenge your feet and posture by standing on one foot with no shoes on. Let your foot and ankle do the work to stabilize you. If you have pain on a daily basis then book an appointment with us immediately.
